Senior Systems Engineer
Job Description
As a member of our team, the major functions of the Senior Systems Engineer are:
- Provide mature, experienced leadership in all aspects of Information Technology at BSCI.
- Research, propose, and implement key technological and procedural changes geared towards improving our clients' IT experience and productivity.
- Establish and enhance performance standards, policies and procedures related to the integrity, availability, and performance of our clients’ IT environments.
- Manage clients’ IT projects including definition, prioritization, resourcing, execution, and communication (with clients, vendors, and within BSCI).
- Utilize extensive knowledge and experience to troubleshoot our clients’ most complex IT issues over the phone, via remote access, or on-site.
- Administer the clients’ IT environments including systems and network design and configuration, new hardware and software evaluation, procurement, and implementation, asset management, hardware and software upgrades, systems monitoring, performance analysis, and problem-solving.
- Mentor BSCI IT staff in all of the above mentioned areas.
Job Requirements
The qualified candidate will possess the following:
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an employee managing IT projects, resources, and project plans for a small to medium size business (25-250 employees) or as an IT services consultant managing clients’ IT environments and projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on technical, computer related subject matter including systems administration procedures, project proposals and plans, IT service requests and issues, and hardware/software product and performance evaluations.
- Ability to balance the demands of multiple constituencies, define priorities, and set appropriate expectations as well as strong organizational qualities in all aspects of work.
- Willingness to participate, as part of a team, in support of our client’s IT needs, from the mundane to the sophisticated.
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in a hands-on capacity with the following:
a. Microsoft server operating systems (Windows 2000/2003), as well as strong comfort level with Microsoft domain, user, file management, and group policy tools.
b. Active Directory Domain Administrator skill level is required. Specific experience with Windows Small Business Server 2003 strongly preferred.
c. Intel based workgroup to mid-range servers as well as their components including storage subsystems.
d. Microsoft Exchange 2000 and/or 2003, Outlook, Outlook Express, and Outlook Web Access.
e. Internet technologies including Microsoft ISA, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, FTP, and IIS servers.
f. TCP/IP based networks and the management of small office/home office (SOHO) network devices.
g. Inherent security issues and defenses which are common in a networked environment.
h. [Preferred] Voice and data cabling including terminating, patching, and toning.
g. [Preferred] Prior experience coordinating all IT aspects of an office move including dealing with ISP, telephone and cabling vendors. Ability to review locations and identify client’s technology requirements.
7. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience. Industry certifications (MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, etc.) a definite plus.
Hours and Travel
The person in this position is expected to work during normal business hours but may, as our clients’ needs dictate, be called upon to work during non-business hours (nights or weekends). These non-business hour situations are typically infrequent and often known well in advance.
The person in this position will be on call during non-business hours on a rotational basis and will be provided with a cell phone by the company for this and related purposes.
This position requires periodic travel to client sites within Eastern Massachusetts, predominantly on the North Shore but periodically to Boston or the South Shore.
Compensation
This is a full-time salaried position with medical benefits (Blue Cross HMO Blue) and educational assistance. Base salary is negotiable.
